Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Thank you so much to Analee @ Book Snacks for nominating me! If you haven’t checked her blog, go for it because her blog is awesome and she’s an awesome blogger! 🙂

The rules:

  • Thank the blogger that nominated you and link their website.
  • Insert the award logo in your blog post.
  • Answer the ten questions that were provided by the nominator.
  • Nominate ten bloggers.
  • Create ten new questions for your nominees.
  1. What is your favorite book cover? Why?

Too many, but the first one that came to mind is The Night Circus. I love how it’s detailed but simplistic at the same time. I also really like the contrast in colors. Normally I wouldn’t think that pink would work well with black and white but it does. I love covers that make you want to read the book but also have something to do with the book like the circus on the cover. I also really love the Barnes and Nobles classic editions. I just think they’re gorgeous. They have a timeless feel to them like you might find them in some rich lady’s library back in the 19th century.

2. What is your least favorite book you read this year?

Dear Joseph Delaney,

I have been with your characters for 12 previous books and I’ve been with them for some dark, creepy and awesome adventures. And then I wonder if you forgot about them and decided to disrespect one of my favorite characters in the series aka Alice. Nothing was really resolved and the plot was boring. Needless to say, I will not be reading the spinoff series because I have stuck with you for so long and you stomped on my heart and not in a good way. I will appreciate what this series has given me and I thank you for that but I think it’s time to say bye.

Sincerely,

me

3. What makes you love a book?

The ingredients to making me love a book:

3 pounds of wonderful characters and friendships that I grow obsessively attached to (group ensembles and diversity preferred)

2 cups of adventure and action

2 Tablespoons of emotion that will tug at my heartstrings

Mix it all up,

Top if off with a dash of romance and humor

4. Do you snack while reading? If so, what do you snack on?

Not usually actually, I just hate getting up to wash my hands while I’m wrapped up in a book. If I do eat though, I’ll probably eat fruit.

5. What is the longest time you’ve gone without reading?

I read a little bit in middle school but I skipped about two years in high school. It wasn’t really until my junior year of high school that I really read a lot. The reason for that was probably because I would be at the library every day after school and being surrounded by so many books just led to me checking one or two which led to more..The other reason is The Hunger Games. My friend lent me The Hunger Games, consequently I loved it and I wanted to read more.

6. What is your favorite film adaptation of a book?

Probably will and forever be Lord of the Rings, specifically The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s just a masterpiece and has such a sense of wonder to it. Plus, it is so unintentionally funny. Btw, as anyone seen the potatoes remix on Youtube? It’s hilarious.

7. What is the largest amount of money you have ever spent on books at one time?

I’ve never really had the opportunity to spend loads of money at once on books though I wish I did. The most would probably be $50.

8. Which books have you re-read many times?

Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Ender’s game, The Night Circus, Lunar Chronicles, The Bartimeus triliogy, any of my favorites

9. Which book character would you want as your significant other? Why?

I don’t care that I’ve used this character for 500 other answers, I’m picking Peter Kavinsky. Can you tell I’m still not over him? What is there to say? He’s sweet, sexy, funny and would drive me around places. Maybe write some really bad love letters. I just feel like he would be the spontaneous type and I really like that ha.

10. Which book character do you think is most like you? What character would you most like to be?

I’m probably most like Emily from Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. She is like me to a T. She’s shy, awkward, and introverted. The character I’d most want to be Kestrel from The Winner’s Curse and Allison from The Blood of Eden trilogy. I love Kestrel’s intellect and her way with words and I love Allison’s belief in humanity despite the experiences she’s had.

My questions:

1. Your OTP just got married! What fictional world do you send them to for the perfect honeymoon? Which OTP?

2. You are having a bad day. Which fictional character do you go to for an inspirational pep talk?

3. What is your favorite scene in your favorite book of 2015 (so far)?

4. You have just received a million dollars to spend on your personal library. What would it look like?

5. If you could read one new release right now what would it be?

6. What book did you read that came to you at just the right time?

7. What is your favorite bookish item (not a book)?

8. What is a type of person that you would normally like in real life but would probably hate as a character in a book?

9. Your most recent favorite quote from a book?

10. What is a book that you think would make a great game? (can be any game: video, computer, app game)

(Feel free to ignore this if you’ve already been nominated!) I nominate..

  1. I recognize those Barnes & Nobles covers! Every time I walk by I feel like buying one. Right now we have the Narnia edition and Sherlock Holmes. I’ve also actually never heard of The Night Circus- which must be good seeing as you’ve re-read it multiple times. Have you reviewed it?

    1. No I haven’t! I read it before I even started writing about books on the internet lol. But I highly recommend it!! It’s one of my favorites. It’s about a traveling circus (with magic) and two magicians who are suppose to battle against one another but they end up falling in love. It’s not as action-packed as you might think though. If you like slow moving books with gorgeous, abstract prose and a hint of romance and historical fiction, I think you should check it out!

  2. I love the BN classic editions, too! They’re so pretty. I only have Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales but I really want the Edgar Allen Poe and Narnia. Haha I love your ingredients list of liking a book! I love Lord of the Rings! OMG! PETER KAVINSKY!! I love him so much hahaha I’m still not over him so right now I’d pick either him or Will Herondale haha. Thanks for the nomination! I’ve already been nominated but I love your questions and will answers them 😀

    1. i know! I just want all of a shelf full of the classics editions *_* Omg I normally don’t like fictional guys like Will Herondale but I somehow love Will which is saying something!! That proposal scene..sigh..*swoon* Yay! I can’t wait to see your answers!! 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yessss. That proposal was so sneaky too. “Well you can have my name.” I was like omggggg. I was freaking out haha. I love the real Will, the sweet, thoughtful, lovable one who writes poetry haha. His other side, where he’s pushing people away, he was hilarious but I still loved it because I knew why he was acting that way

  3. Oh gosh, 2 years is nothing compared to my reading hiatus. I didn’t read for fun at all when I was in high school, haha. Even now, I honestly feel like I don’t read as much as other bloggers like *cough* Analee *cough* LOL, she reads peculiarly fast (in a good way)! 😉 And I really want to watch LotR but I’m saving the films until I read the books. So no, I have not seen the potatoes remix but I guess I should when I join that bandwagon. And oh, Peter… I wasn’t a fan of Jenny Han’s Summer trilogy but the only reason why I’m going to give TAtBILB a try is because of Peter and the fact that so many readers adore him.

I seriously loved your answers, Carolyn! You’re so creative, like the letter to Joseph Delaney and your three perfect ingredients that makes a book so lovable (okay, so I worded that a little weird). And thank you for the nomination, I’m hoping to make this post soon! ^.^

    1. Sometimes reading fast like me can be a burden too because you read so many books and then you forget them haha! Quality > quantity. But at the same time, there are so many books I want to get to..sigh the dilemma. LotR is awesome! I actually watched the LotR movies before the books and that actually made reading the books easier for me haha cause the books are actually kind of tedious o.o
I haven’t read her Summer trilogy but TAtBILB is just too cute not to like!
Thank you Summer! That actually really made my day hehe 😀 and I can’t wait to read your answers!!

      1. I’ve heard many readers mention that LotR takes more time and focus but that it’ll be so worth it! So I can’t wait! Have you read all of Tolkien’s books? The only thing that’s stopping me from reading them is my confusion to which is the first book I should start with. Like whether if it is smart to go with The Fellowship of the Ring or The Hobbit first. I think someone suggest publication order though!

      2. It’s not that I don’t like the story but the writing is just too elaborate at times, it gets tedious. I still love it though! I’ve read The Hobbit and the first two LoTR books. I totally recommend starting with The Hobbit. It’s like a crash course to LoTR cause you get to slowly immerse yourself in the world and it’s easier to read! I also recommend watching The Hobbit and the movies first too! But if you’re a die hard read-first-before-movie person, then yeah read The Hobbit first 🙂

      3. I may consider watching the movies first because I’m so not that reader anymore. I broke that rule with Harry Potter (in my defense I wasn’t a reader then). And my most recent one was with Divergent. 😛

But actually I may try reading The Hobbit first, then watch the movies, and the other books from there. I don’t know why I’m acting like I’m so concerned about this. We both know my TBR is ridiculous as it is… 😉

      4. haha, it’s ok, you’re thinking ahead 😉 And that actually sounds like a really good plan, I wish I’d done that!!
Wow, Harry Potter AND Divergent?? I consider those very serious crimes, Summer..jk I can see how watching Divergent first would make me want to read the book after.
Dude, there are currently about 150 books on my TBR list thing I have on my phone o.o
I was thinking about it and I was wondering if you wanted to do a buddy read together?!

        Liked by 1 person

      5. Umm, the sad thing is… I still haven’t read Divergent yet (don’t hurt me!)… I think I have around 200+ on my GR TBR, which doesn’t even cover my actual one with books I do own. Speaking of GR, I was hoping to clean it up today. A lot of my bookshelves are so outdated and extraneous, and I may possibly make a shelf that reflects all the titles I own-not too sure if I want to handle that though, lol.)

And about the buddy read, YES! LET’S DO IT!! 😀

And this is so off topic but how do you feel about the new WP reader format? I tend to check WP out with my the phone app more and when I went on my reader yesterday. I was like mindblown by how it changed. :O There’s even a time at the bottom of each one now with how long that post should take to read. Kind of cool!

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Lol I actually don’t think you’re missing out on much. I liked Divergent when I first read it but now, I think it’s just average haha.
Ha, I tried to delete some books on my To Read shelf on GR and it was neverending. It’s like a blackhole of books lol.
YAYY! Is there any book you really want to read? I have some ideas but idk..
I kind of like it, I feel like it’s a lot more polished than the old format. I just hate how sometimes I can’t read the whole post directly from my reader..
I think the time it takes to read the post is pretty cool, although I wouldn’t really look at that. I think it’s more useful for books than blog posts. I mean a lot of blog posts are relatively the same length. It’s probably more useful for books. I think the thumbnails at the bottom of the post are pretty neat too..

      7. Lol, I want to be selfish and just send you my TBR list. 😛 But I’m kidding, let’s choose a well known title we both have been meaning to get to! Why don’t you suggest me some titles since I have more on my TBR than you, I think! I’m already so excited! 😀

And you’re so right with the time thing. Books do have that function, ebooks that is. But those timestamp things always make me feel anxious for some reason. Like I feel like I must read it in the predicted time it suggests. Not sure how those things calibrate to my reading pace or if it’s even that accurate…

        Liked by 1 person

      8. I would actually be down to see your TBR haha. Um a few titles off the top of my head are: A Darker Shade of Magic, An Ember in the Ashes, Ready, Player One, The Summoning..if any of those appeal to you. Yeah! I never gauge whether I do finish the post or chapter in that amount of time or not o.o

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Oh wow, the first title I was thinking of was A Darker Shade of Magic, because I have that one out from the library. I guess great mind think alike. And I’ve already read The Summoning, that’s a good one!

        Liked by 1 person

      10. That sounds good! You read way faster than I do, but we should maybe sync our reviews or do something special with the discussion part of our review. I don’t know! I’ve never done a buddy read before, haha.

  4. Those Barnes and Nobles classics editions are so stunning. I so wanted to buy all of them unfortunately I’m too poor at the moment and they aren’t exactly cheap. haha

    Thanks for the nomination. ❤

    1. They are *_* I just want a shelf dedicated to them alone, but I’m too poor for them too lol so we’re in the same boat. Yw! I can’t wait to read your answers! 🙂

  5. The Night Circus cover is definitely stunning. I have yet to read the story though, hope it matches its awesome cover! ❤ And fruit is great to snacks on—easy and healthy too! Oh, and Peter… he's just great! XD Great answers!
