In all my years of reading, I’ve never really heard any mention of this book series and I feel like this is a very underrrated YA fantasy series.
I’m not going to lie, this series is long. It consists of 10 books in total and it’s a relatively old series (First book published in 2002). This is one of those series that I discovered back in the day when I went to the library and just picked a random book off the shelf based on the cover and synopsis and started reading. And I’m so glad I picked up this one.
Essentially it is about a boy named Bobby who one day finds out he is a traveler and can travel to parallel dimensions. He’s transported to Denduron. There, he finds that there is this intergalactic war against the evil tyrant Saint Dane. Each book in the series follows him on a different world in this universe but is one step closer to defeating Saint Dane. Each world has different rules, different settings and advancements. Meanwhile on Earth, his friends, Courtney and Max read his diary as he’s relating his adventures.
I would say the best part of these books is the worldbuilding. I think it’s so interesting, unique and dynamic and some of the best I’ve seen in a YA book. And to create a different world with different customs and rules for every book with great detail is something remarkable. One takes place underwater and then you have another world where animals rule the humans. The possibilities are endless.
It’s a long series so the characters grow a lot throughout the books and you meet some really interesting characters, though they are not as fascinating as the well-plotted storylines. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy and science fiction but is new to these genres and love unique worldbuilding.
