Thursday quotables is a weekly meme hosted by bookshelffantasies. My Thursday quote is from a book I just finished, The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. This quote is from a part of the book where the main character is comparing humans to bees.
We think we can make honey without sharing in the fate of bees, but we are in truth nothing but poor bees, destined to accomplish our task and then die
I love the beauty but also the bluntness of this statement. Sometimes as humans, we do think we’re kind of invincible and thinking we’re different than other animals and escape their fate, but in the end, we experience life and death just like most sentient beings on Earth.
